This series explores the connection between humans and animals. Using pun, metaphor, and association, these portraits capture the character of the animal and simultaneously ask the viewer to look into his/her own psyche. The paintings are as much a study of identity and communication as they are a tribute to the animals portrayed. The act of imbuing animals with human language becomes a vehicle for self-examination. What does it mean to be an animal, and in what ways are we really different from other creatures? If we could understand the speech of a foreign human or a foreign species, in what ways would our relationships change?
