Atacama
Moisture loving lichens
absorb liquid like a sponge,
drinking the dewy deposits
left last night by the fog.
In the Atacama,
guanacos, little llamas,
curl their tongues round and round
and up and down the cactus spines
they sip and slurp,
and thirst for more,
the droplets they lick will take no time
to fall to the desert floor.
